The Ashanti regional communications director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh says, former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has no regard for Ashanti region.
This, he said ,is because, Mr. Mahama failed to attend the 25th anniversary celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II .
Speaking on Wontumi Morning Show, on 21st June, 2024, Mr Yandoh emphasised former president John Mahama’s hesitation in involving the Ashanti region in his political decision making.
To buttress his argument, he cited some instances which clearly shows that Mahama has no respect for Ashanti region.
“Everyone was at the 25th anniversary celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II except John Mahama. As a former president, why would you not attend state functions?
Ashanti region is the second largest with many votes cast for the NDC after Greater Accra, but Mahama has never selected any candidate from the region as his running mate. Even in his campaign team, there is no executive from Ashanti region.
Competent and hardworking leaders such as Oheneba Kwadwo Bonsu, Samuel Sarpong, Yamoah Ponkor, Oteng Agyei, Akrasi Sarpong and even Muntaka have no roles in the campaign team just because they are from the region” he stressed.
He also revealed that, Mahama has the intention of dividing the Ashanti region into two separate regions when he takes the reins of government.
