The director of Public Health for Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe says meningitis is to escalate in the upcoming months.
According to him, this is as a result of the shift in the weather patterns.
“We are likely to record more cases this time. This is because we are part of the countries on the meningitis belt and it is on the rise at this moment ” he said.
The Environmental Protection Agency in collaboration with the Ghana Health service recently noted that, weather conditions will be worse in the coming months.
In a release by the GHS, dated, 25th February, 2024, it stated that there is a high risk of respiratory diseases and meningitis due to the dryness of the air.
Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV, on 26th February, 2024, Dr. Franklin admonished Ghanaians to stay hydrated by taking in water frequently.
He However recommended the use of face mask which is a measure to thwart the contraction of the disease.
