Whispers of internal power struggles are swirling within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following reports of a planned meeting at the Alisa Hotel on March 4th.
Sources within the party allege that the gathering, involving former Parliamentary Candidates (PCs), is a veiled attempt by “unseen hands” to manipulate the party’s direction and potentially hijack its structures.
Some insiders suggest the meeting is aimed at consolidating support for a particular faction ahead of future internal elections, while others fear it represents a more direct challenge to the current leadership.
The decision to meet all PCs was met with some form of resistance from some of the PC, however, they were told that they can decide to come or not.
One of the PCs who did not buy the idea of meeting PCs who lost their elections indicated that there is a need for the meeting to wait to ensure that the party’s research team dedicated to unraveling the cause of their humiliating defeat present its report.
He told MyNewsGh.com that “I am on the platform of 2024 PCs where this idea of the meeting was proposed. I personally opposed to it but I was told that I could decide to attend or not to attend. After a thorough investigation into the proposed meeting I have realized that there are some unseen individuals behind it. Just read the notice of the meeting again. Cost of hiring the place, feeding and t&t for participants. The attendees are all the PCs from the Constituencies where we lost. So far we lost 177 seats.
Who is/are bearing this cost. What is the person’s/persons’ interest. Is it not too early. Will this step bring the needed party cohesion and unity for 2028. The party has set up an election review committee. They have not come out yet with any reports. Why the rush . Aren’t we learning any lessons from 2024 miserable electoral defeat. PCs are PCs during elections. After elections there is nothing like former PCs in NPP. Every body here is a former PC. The notice of the said meeting has gone viral. Some of the comments on the social media platforms are not palatable. The leadership of the party should put their foot down and ensure that the bigger interest of the party reigns”.
