The Speaker of Parliament, Alban S. K. Bagbin has made it clear that deciding where a Member of Parliament sits is not his responsibility.
This statement aims to establish clarity on who remains Majority or Minority in Parliament of Ghana.
The Speaker, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin called the press conference on Wednesday afternoon amidst the controversy of which side of the House is now the Majority, pending a Supreme Court interpretation on Article 97 on when a seat can be declared vacant.
Speaker Bagbin has not confiremed NPP/NDC MPs as Majority or Minority, hence, recalled the House to reconvene on Thursday, November 7.
He urged MPs settle misunderstandings within the house through mature deliberations and compromises, stressing that parliament weakens itself when its members keep turning to the courts to settle or seek favorable determinations of not just legal matters but essentially political and governance questions.
“Majority or Minority in the House will determine the side of MPs who’ll be present in their numbers and not where they’ll sit, it’s not my duty to tell MPs where they should sit”
