Dormaa Ahenkro: Ban on Bush Burning lifted, farmers urged to prioritize safety in burn farming – Fire commander

The Municipal Fire Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service of the Dormaa Fire Station, D.O 3 Richard Oppong, on the 28th December 2023, placed a ban on bush burning and all activities that are likely to cause Fire outbreaks in the municipality as a result of the harmattan.

Speaking to Mr. Samuel Agyei, the Dormaa Ahenkro Station Officer II in charge of Rural Fires on behalf of the Fire Commander, he noted that he has been directed by the Municipal commander D.O 3 Richard Oppong to officially uplift the ban on slash-and-burn farming to enable farmers to prepare adequately for their farm activities.

He said the ban is lifted from today, March 22, 2024, onwards as a result of the series of rainfalls recorded so far in the year which has reduced the dryness of the environment stressing that farmers must consult fire volunteers in their respective communities in their attempt to burn their farmlands for cultivation because the dryness of the weather still persists despite the number of rainfall being recorded.

He revealed that they have so far recorded 4 bush fire cases this year which according to him has ransacked a lot of farmlands and properties hence farmers must be cautious against fire in harmattan seasons.

Finally, he advised the general public to put off all electrical gadgets and unplug them when stepping out stressing that people must also put a stop to the practice of keeping gas cylinders in their rooms because it dangerous practices that easily lead to domestic Fire outbreaks that can raze down series of properties and belongings
