2024 Polls: Missing BVD’s or Laptops Brouhaha; Center for Leadership and Democratic Governance (CLDG) tells Political Parties to be extra careful vigilant with the EC.

The Executive Director of Center for Leadership and Democratic Governance(CLDG), Mr. Apatsea Isaac Kwasi has advised the various political parties in the country to check and be circumspect with the actions of the Electoral Commission regarding the significance of ensuring free, fair and transparent elections in this year’s 2024 polls.

In interview with Mr Apatsea with this portal, he indicated that the recent incident involving missing Electoral Kits from the Ghana’s Electoral Commission is one of the larger schemes to manipulate the elections.

He reiterated that, such unfortunate happening raise serious concerns, indicating a possible threat to the integrity of the electoral process going into 2024 Elections.

Reacting to explaination given by the Electoral Commission,which disclosed that it was rather 5 laptops and Not Biometric verification Devices (BVDs) that got missing from the ECs store, Mr Appeatse argued that bizarre nature of the stolen items births a level of high suspicion beyond theft thus such development gives flames and raise serious concerns about the security and transparency of the upcoming 2024 Elections.

He claims that the stolen EC BVR Kits comprises of Laptop, camera, scanner and printer which can possibly temper the integrity and the conduct of the elections in the country.

“Until the motive for stealing the kits are known, any ordinary Ghanaians will have it in mind that such occurrence may affect the conduct of the election” he reiterated.

He indicated that, CLDG position concerning the actions of the officials of the EC is utterly undemocratic thus likely to inflame tensions going into 2024 polls.

He added that, the CLDG holds the opinion that EC should have informed the public about the situation but waiting for the minority to blow the whistle is something which is inimical to the progress of the democracy and raise serious questions about the posture of the EC.

“This actually vindicate the position of minority in parliament”

Mr Apatsea comments underscore the need for accountability and transparency in the process of elections to safeguard and ensure the whims and caprices of the Ghanaian voters are protected.

CLDG appealed to EC to be guided with all democratic ingredients that must be adhered to before, during and after elections.

“It’s only this that Ghanaians in general, have trust and confidence in EC.” he stressed
